Anobii was founded in 2006. The name is from "worm" in Latin. Its aim is to be the social networking site for reading lovers. It provides the functions like adding works, scores, write a review, strike up a conversation and so on. Most of aNobii's users are from Europe.
In March this year, the big three publishing giant - Harper Collins, Penguins, Langdon bookstore and the British entertainment retail company HMV decided to invest for aNobii and transform it into a social network sales platform in the ebook industry. aNobii CEO - Matteo Berlucchi in an interview with PaidContent provided a lot of interesting information. He explained that although aNobii used a lot of Facebook platform, the goal is not to attract Facebook users to aNobii website to buy books. aNobii won't add marked labels on the pages, and don't expect to increase traffic.
Berlucchi think that in the digital era, the "shop" should be evolved to "network", and the reader will no longer need to go to the bookstore. The ideal state is that readers can directly buy what they are interested in on the social network.
